Ferromanganese Furnace: Equipment and Technical Parameters

1. Equipment Overview

Ferromanganese furnaces are divided into two main types: Submerged Arc Reduction Furnace (for high-carbon ferromanganese HC FeMn) and Refining Electric Arc Furnace (for medium/low-carbon ferromanganese MC/LC FeMn).
  1. High-carbon ferromanganese submerged arc furnace (SAF): Adopts three Söderberg self-baking electrodes submerged in burden, relies on arc & resistance heating for carbothermic reduction of manganese ore, closed furnace design for CO furnace gas recovery, large capacity for continuous mass production.
  2. Medium & low-carbon ferromanganese refining furnace: Tilting AC/DC arc furnace with graphite electrodes, silicothermic decarburization refining to produce low-carbon high-purity ferromanganese for high-grade steelmaking.

2. Complete Equipment System Composition

2.1 High-Carbon Ferromanganese Submerged Arc Furnace System

(1) Power Supply & Transformer System

  • 10kV high-voltage distribution cabinet, SVG reactive power compensation device
  • Three-phase on-load tap-changing furnace transformer (90–240V multi-grade secondary voltage)
  • Short network: water-cooled copper cross arms, copper contact shoes, water-cooled flexible cables, low-loss conductive structure
  • Self-baking electrode holding & slipping device, automatic electrode length compensation

(2) Furnace Body Main Equipment

  1. Furnace shell: All-welded cylindrical steel shell, full water cooling at slag line, furnace waist and furnace roof; leakage & temperature sensors equipped
  2. Refractory lining: Furnace bottom & molten pool – high-density carbon bricks; slag zone – magnesia-carbon bricks; fully resistant to high-temperature reduction slag corrosion
  3. Closed furnace hood: Water-cooled sealed cover, centralized flue gas outlet for furnace gas recovery & dust removal
  4. Tapping & slag outlet: Double fixed tap holes, mud gun, tapping machine, separate iron & slag runner

(3) Electrode Hydraulic Lifting System

Three independent hydraulic lifting cylinders, PLC constant resistance automatic adjustment, fast response to stabilize submerged arc, reduce electrode breakage risk.

(4) Supporting Auxiliary Systems

  1. Raw material batching system: Silos, belt weigh feeders, mixing machine (weighing accuracy ±0.5%)
  2. Closed circulation cooling water system for furnace shell, cross arms, transformer
  3. Furnace gas recovery & dedusting system: Waste heat utilization + bag dust collector
  4. DCS automatic control system: Continuous monitoring of power, electrode position, cooling water, furnace pressure, tapping timing & data storage

2.2 Medium/Low-Carbon Ferromanganese Refining Furnace System

(1) Power Supply Unit

Three-phase AC furnace transformer / DC rectifier unit, graphite electrode matching design, fast power adjustment for decarburization refining stage.

(2) Tilting Furnace Body

  • Integral water-cooled furnace shell, alkaline chrome-magnesia refractory lining
  • Hydraulic bilateral tilting mechanism, tilting angle 0–110° for tapping & slagging
  • Lifting & rotating furnace cover, convenient for feeding & furnace repairing

(3) Matching Auxiliary Equipment

Oxygen blowing device (optional for deep decarburization), hydraulic tapping machine, closed dust collection, circulating water cooling, PLC automatic smelting curve control.
