Magnesium Slag Glass Ceramic Electric Melting Furnace 2000kVA
Magnesium reduction slag contains calcium silicate, magnesium oxide and residual heavy metal traces. When it is melted, homogenised and quenched, the melt forms an amorphous glass network that locks those elements into a stable structure, so the slag can be converted into glass ceramic aggregate, decorative boards or microcrystalline stone instead of being landfilled. This 2000kVA electric melting furnace is built for that vitrification route.
Advantages of the Vitrification Route
- Pollution lock in: heavy metals are bonded inside the silica network, and leaching values of the vitrified product meet the requirements for building material reuse.
- Volume reduction: the melted and quenched product is dense and compact, cutting the volume that has to be stored.
- Uniform melt: the electric furnace with PLC temperature profile keeps the pool within plus or minus 10 C, so the glass ceramic body has a consistent colour and structure.
- Lining life: corundum mullite castable hot face with high alumina brick backup resists the alkaline attack of magnesium slag and thermal shock during tapping.
- Selling the output: vitrified aggregate can be sold to the construction and decorative stone market rather than treated as a disposal cost.
Process Flow
- Magnesium slag is dried, crushed and blended with a small amount of silica sand and nucleating agent.
- The blend is fed through a sealed charging port into the electric melting furnace.
- The melt is held at 1450-1550 C until it is fully homogenised and the vitrification rate exceeds 98%.
- Melt is tapped forward into a water quench granulator to produce glass aggregate, or cast into moulds for glass ceramic boards.
- Cast articles are crystallised in a heat treatment kiln at 850-950 C for 60 minutes and then annealed and polished.
