Three-way catalyst DC furnace

This is a DC arc furnace specialized for processing three-way catalysts, primarily designed to recover precious metals and other valuable components from spent three-way catalysts.

Basic Principle

The DC arc furnace converts three-phase alternating current into single-phase direct current via thyristor rectification. An electric arc is generated between the top graphite electrode (cathode) and the bottom electrode (anode) across the three-way catalyst material, utilizing the high temperature from the arc to heat and melt the material for effective processing.

Structural Features

It typically consists of an arc furnace body, composed of a furnace shell and a furnace cover. The furnace shell is equipped with a bottom, lining, slag outlet, and discharge port. A first cooling water circulation assembly is arranged around the lining, consisting of multiple independent cooling water systems from top to bottom. The furnace cover is provided with multiple feed inlets, an exhaust pipe, and a second cooling water circulation assembly. The electrode rod assembly penetrates the middle of the furnace cover and can be adjusted in height via a lifting frame. A stirring assembly linked to the electrode rod is also installed at the furnace bottom to enhance uniform heating of the material.

  • During three-way catalyst processing, the high-temperature arc efficiently decomposes complex compounds, facilitating better separation of precious metals from other components and improving recovery efficiency.

Application Scope

Widely used in precious metal recycling enterprises and environmental protection treatment companies, it specifically processes spent three-way catalysts. Through high-temperature smelting in the arc furnace, it recovers precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium, while enabling proper treatment of furnace slag for subsequent comprehensive utilization.




Equipment use: Mainly used for smelting raw materials automotive catalyst (80%) and petroleum catalyst slag (20%) treatment, the equipment adopts direct current mode, effective recovery of valuable metals.

4) The heat is concentrated, the crucible area of the melting pool is close to the bottom of the furnace, and the heat radiation of the solution slag line area is small, which has a good protection effect on the protection of resistant materials.
5) The DC electric furnace has a low flicker effect and noise, which is very beneficial to the power grid and the operator, and its flicker effect is only 50% to 70% of the AC electric furnace, and the noise during submerged arc operation is more than 20dB lower than that of the AC electric furnace.
6) The natural power factor of DC electric furnace is high, and the power factor can reach 0.90~0.96 without compensation.
7) The integrated rectifier power supply adopts a three-phase full-bridge rectifier device, and the AC power supply is rectified into a stable and reliable DC power supply.
